This bike taught me the basics I needed before I ever sat a motorbike licence test, traffic handling, starting and stopping smoothly, turning with confidence. All the stuff that's terrifying to learn on something bigger and heavier. What surprised me was the reaction. I honestly thought it might look a bit lame at first, a moped, not a "real" bike. Instead I've had so many other motorcyclists stop and tell me how cool it looks and what a smart way it is to start riding. The motorbike community is very inclusive :)
What I loved
- Cheap to run (minimal charging cost)
- No motorbike licence needed to start, ride on your car licence
- Builds real traffic/handling confidence before you upgrade
- Speed cap keeps things safe while you learn
- Looks good, gets looks and compliments
- Cheap entry point secondhand ($2k)
What felt challenging
- Silent motor means less awareness from other road users (and you can hear yourself singing.)
- Speed cap eventually limits you once you're ready for more
